Between the picturesque villages of Lassithi Plateau, about five kilometers from our guesthouses, you will find the small village of Lagou, which was named after its first resident, Thomas Lagos.
Lagou village is one of the first dependencies that were built by the Venetians According to tradition and the Venetian archives, there were no villages or towns in the plain of Lassithi to build flood protection, while there were only settlements in the highlands. Most of today's villages in Lassithi Plateau were built after the Venetian flood protection structures and by the residents themselves. Many of them today have been dissolved or retained as place names or have evolved into villages.
Traditional architecture is seen throughout the village, as well as in all the villages of Plateau, the houses are mostly stone-built, low and with small courtyards. Walking through the streets of the village, you will discover the everyday life of the inhabitants who remain faithful to the traditions. On the main road of the village, you will find the church of Agios Panteleimonas.
